Ibu Kota Nusantara     10 Oktober 2024

Presiden Joko Widodo inaugurated the State Palace at the Indonesia’s future capital of Nusantara on the island of Kalimantan, less than two weeks before leavingoffice. The President’s party arrived at the Nusantara airport on a Boeing 737-800, the biggest aircraft to have used the airstrip to date. Commercial flights are expected to operate from the start of 2025.

Recently, the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority opened parts of the city to tourists, including the Ceremony Plaza, a sprawling field that directly faces the StatePalace and the Garuda Palace and is also fitted with a mini amphitheater, forest trail, retail gallery and visitor center.

The Garuda Palace is still under construction and when finished will be inaugurated by incoming President Prabowo. I Nyoman Nuarta, the visionary behind the Garuda Palace, explained that the design features a Garuda, the national emblem, which appears to embrace the palace, symbolizing protection for the Indonesian people. The Garuda’s head is gently bowed to convey humility rather than arrogance. Standing at 44 meters from the road and 88 meters above sea level, the overall height of Garuda Palace reaches 70 meters.
