On 14 April 2021 Ms Penny Williams was appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia.
Ms Williams is a career diplomat, having joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1988. Among her appointments in DFAT, Ms Williams served as
- High Commissioner to Malaysia (2007-2010) and
- Australia’s first Global Ambassador for Women and Girls (2011-2013)
As Ambassador to Indonesian, Ms Williams will be able to employ the Indonesian language skills that she acquired at the Australian National University.
